Welcome to Washington Music!
My name is Katie Schuessler and this is my first year teaching at Washington and Mackrille Schools. I am very excited to be working with your children!

I will be updating this page once every 10 day rotation to keep you updated on what we are doing in music class.

Pre-K - Experiencing music: Listening to different instruments, singing basic children's songs (ex. Wheels on the Bus, Old MacDonald, etc.)
Kindergarten - Steady Beat: Learning how to keep a steady beat while listening to music or instruments, while playing instruments, and while singing.
Rotation 1: "Chop Chop Chippity Chop" and "Llama Llama Red Pajama" book
Rotation 2: "Bee Bee Bumble Bee" and "Monkey See, Monkey Doo"
Rotation 3: "Pass the Pumpkin" and "Diddle Diddle Dumpling"
1st - Call and Response vs. Echo Songs: Learning the difference between call and response (the "response" is different than the "call") and echo ("repeat after me").
Rotation 1: "Michael Row The Boat Ashore"
Rotation 2: "Doggy Doggy, Where's Your Bone?"
Rotation 3: "Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?"
2nd - Tempo: Learning how songs can be performed fast or slow and everywhere in between, learning why composers choose tempo, and learning the "musical words" for tempo.
Rotation 1: "Engine Engine Number Nine"
Rotation 2: "Hunt the Cows"
Rotation 3: "Little Red Caboose"
3rd -
Recorder: Learning how to play and care for an instrument.
Rotation 1: Learning our first note, G, reading and playing rhythms, and getting a good tone on the recorders.
Rotation 2: Composition: Taking quarter notes and half notes and putting them in an order that students like, and then performing them. Students will also write their rhythms.
Rotation 3: Continuing to work on good tone and G, beginning to add the note A.
4th - Recorder: Continuing what we learned about recorder in 3rd grade, reviewing notes and good tone. Learning how to read music on the staff.
Rotation 1: Reviewing "Hot Cross Buns", scavenger hunt of note values, rhythms, and notes on the staff. 
Rotation 2: Learning a new BAG song "Au Claire De La Lune,"
Rotation 3: Working on "Jingle Bells" and reviewing C and D in songs.
